Legislative Update Week of April 18th

2010 Legislative Session

The biggest development this week was the defeat of gambling on the House Floor. SB 489, which was sponsored by Sen. Lou D’Allesandro and promised much needed revenue for the state, was defeated 212-158. That particular bill is dead, but it may not be the end of gambling this session. There are a few other ways to get gambling back on the table so we will keep you posted.

The House Finance committee heard testimony all week from state agencies that would be affected by the Governor’s cuts proposed in SB 450. There has not been talk of the 1.7% increase in employee contribution…yet. The committee begins work sessions on the amendment next week where the topic is likely to come up.

The Retiree Medical Trust endorsement (SJR 2) passed unanimously on the House Floor. The resolution now heads to the Governor’s desk for his signature.

SB 489

SJR 2:

Upcoming legislative action this week:

Tuesday April 27th

Full committee work session on HB 450

Amendment to SB 450:

Public hearing on SB 470 which would delete the provision for out of state workers to buy retirement service credit.

?

Thursday, April 29th

Work session on SB 450: (Budget vehicle bill)

Public Hearing on HB 1486 (sprinkler legislation)

I hope these updates are helpful. If you or any of your members need more information, or clarification on any of the bills or happenings at the legislature please call or email me. I’m always happy to help!
